Smart Life Lab

The Smart Life Lab was launched in 2006 by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy within the framework of the research promotion project SerCHo (Service Centric Home), as a model apartment based on the Internet of Things (IoT). The showroom is operated on the 15th floor of the Telefunken high-rise at Ernst-Reuter-Platz by the association Connected Living e.V. and enables a broad public and expert delegations to experience innovative solutions for Connected Living in a real residential environment.

The IOLITE solution installed in the Smart Life Lab allows to link end devices of all manufacturers without problems. This has enabled the creation of a State of the Art environment for Connected Living of the future, in which all Connected Living club members have the opportunity to network their smart devices and solutions in a holistic system and present them to the public.

Infrastructure

The Smart Life Lab consists of four rooms:

• Bedroom
• Kitchen

In the apartment, 115 devices and sensors with a total of 355 data points are interoperably networked on the basis of 14 protocols:

Interaction of the Future

A special focus of the showroom is on innovative interaction modalities.

• Cross-linked textiles, like a window curtain that recognizes its status, measures light exposure and supports interaction through touch
• Gesture interaction using innovative finger gesture recognition in a ring, developed at DAI-Labor the TU Berlin
• Voice Control with modern voice assistants
• Interactive mirror that displays additional information and can be controlled with gesture interaction
• Augmented Reality complements other interaction modalities with ads anchored in the environment
